Ray Burigo, MS, RD
Ray Burigo is a Registered Dietitian (RD) specializing in Functional Aging and Nutritional Counseling. Ray has 25 years experience counseling and training clients in New York City, West Hampton Beach, NY, and West Los Angeles, CA.
He has a Master of Science degree in Nutrition (with honors) from California State University, Northridge (MS) and is a certified as a Functional Aging Specialist with the Functional Aging Institute founded by Dr. Dan Richie and Dr. Cody Sipe of Purdue University.
Ray is certified with the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN) and Precision Nutrition as a Sports Nutritionist. He is also certified as a Personal Trainer (CPT) from the highly regarded program offered at Marymount Manhattan College, NYC.
This combination of vast experience coupled with an up-to-date nutritional education is a rare commodity in a field that is constantly changing. As a well known Personal Trainer, he understands the types of training and exercise that are required for adults at any age.
Ray has also gained expertise in the specialized field of Sports Nutrition, having received certification from The International Society of Sports Nutrition. His master’s thesis titled Development of Nutritional Information for the Collegiate Athlete examined the behaviors, concerns, and eating habits of athletes for the purpose of creating educational materials.
Ray also gained proficiency counseling vegetarians and vegans with active lifestyles. He received certification as a Health Specialist from the American Health Sciences Institute in 1988. Other graduates of the institute include Fit for Life authors Marilyn and Harvey Diamond, and the world-renowned motivational teacher/author, Anthony Robbins. Ray’s diverse education is instrumental in forming his overall philosophy that everyone is different and that health can be attained in numerous ways.
During the past decade Ray has been perfecting the Proactive Aging program that combines guidance in nutrition, fitness, and total well-being as a “way of life.” He began developing his current system in 1991 as an Elite Trainer at the original Equinox Health Club in New York City, noted for their state-of-the-art equipment and cutting edge training methods. He then headed to Los Angeles where he trained his clients at the exclusive Pro Gym Fitness Studio, owned by Ryan O’Neal and the late Farrah Fawcet, and frequented by the top Hollywood stars. Now Ray works exclusively with adults over 50 years of age that want to remain healthy and active for their entire life.
Ray also received his Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Commission on Dietetic Registration. This is a practice group within the ADA that keeps current on all weight management issues.
Before embarking on his second career in health, Ray spent 13 years in sales and marketing after earning a B.B.A. in Marketing from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
